The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity for a Radiologist to join a hospital-based radiology department serving a diverse regional community of approximately 47,000 people. The department supports a full mix of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient imaging needs, with time split between 70% clinical and 30% non-clinical responsibilities.

As a Radiologist in this team, you will be expected to have a general scope of radiologist skills, including ultrasound, MRI, and CT. Your day-to-day will involve interpreting diagnostic exams, triaging and protocoling imaging requests, and consulting with referring clinicians. You will also provide guidance and support to the radiology technology team and contribute to teaching medical and surgical house officers and radiology registrars.

This role also provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the department, in close partnership with the Head of Department and fellow Radiologists.

Additionally, you will have access to participate in a state-of-the-art medical imaging research centre, focused on MRI-based research including mild traumatic brain injury—positioning the region to become a world-leading centre in MRI advancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret a broad range of diagnostic imaging studies including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and general X-rays.

• Consult with clinicians to guide imaging decisions and patient care plans.

• Participate in triaging and protocoling imaging requests.

• Engage in continuous quality improvement and service development projects.

• Contribute to the education of local junior doctors and radiology registrars.

• Share in a low-frequency on-call roster (approximately 1 in 4 nights, from home).

• Option to perform light intervention and/or mammography procedures.

Requirements

• Vocational registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Radiologist.

• Broad clinical experience in diagnostic radiology including CT, MRI, and ultrasound.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach to team-based care.

• Willingness to participate in service development and innovation.

• Eligible to live and work in New Zealand.
